What does “사귀다” mean in Korean: friends or dating?

사귀다 does two jobs. 친구를 사귀다 clearly means “to make friends.” In a romantic context it means dating: 우리 사귀어요 is “we’re going out,” and 사귈래? is how a confession ends, “will you go out with me?” Context does the work, so listen for what the conversation is about.
