What does “진상” (jinsang) mean in Korean?
진상 (jinsang) is Korean slang for an obnoxious, unreasonable person — the customer screaming for a refund, but also any entitled troublemaker who makes a scene and ruins everyone’s day. One popular story ties it to 進上, the fine goods once sent up as tribute to the king, supposedly flipped into an insult — but treat that as folk etymology, not settled fact. What matters is the modern sting: a 진상 is someone acting like the world owes them.
In practice you’ll hear it as a noun for the person and a verb phrase for the behavior: 진상 손님 (jinsang sonnim) is a nightmare customer, and 진상 부리다 means to throw a fit, make an unreasonable scene, act obnoxious. This clip’s title — 야구장에서 진상 부리는 관중 — is exactly that: a spectator “부리는 진상,” causing a ruckus in the stands. Note the homophone trap: written 眞相, an identical-sounding 진상 means “the truth / the real facts” (사건의 진상, the truth of the case), a formal word with no attitude at all. Context and tone tell you which one someone means — one is a courtroom, the other is a meltdown at the register.
