What does “jneene” mean in Levantine Arabic?

جنينة (jneene) is the Levantine Arabic word for a small garden or backyard. It comes from Modern Standard Arabic جنّة (“garden, paradise”) with a diminutive ending, and the everyday meaning shrinks the grand word into something domestic: the patch behind your house with a lemon tree and a few plastic chairs. MSA uses حديقة (ḥadīqa) in textbook lessons; Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian, and Jordanian speakers reach for jneene in real conversation. The diminutive is a small but reliable marker of Levantine speech.
