What does “dame acá” mean in Spanish?
Dame acá is the phrase for demanding something into your hand: “give it here.” Grammatically it’s odd — acá means “over here,” so the sentence is literally “give me to-here,” with the it left out entirely — but it’s a fixed expression every Spanish-speaking parent, sibling and toddler uses while pointing at the thing they want. Trae acá (“bring it here”) works the same way.
The clip is the phrase in its natural habitat: a toddler at the table, palm out — “Dame acá. Teléfono, teléfono... Dame.” Note acá itself: Latin America uses it constantly where Spain prefers aquí, especially with motion. Register warning: dame acá is blunt, family-level Spanish — with strangers, soften to ¿me lo pasas, por favor?
