What does “bardo” (برضه) mean in Egyptian Arabic?

برضه (also spelled برضو) is one of Egyptian Arabic’s hardest-working words, covering “also,” “still,” and “even so” in one breath. The clip lands it perfectly: the speaker marvels that a donkey never gets lost, then admits بستخدم الجي بي إس وبرضه باتوه — “I use the GPS and I still get lost.” One syllable pair, and the whole self-deprecating punchline hangs on it.

Its uses fan out fast: أنا برضه — “me too”; برضه مش عاجبك؟ — “you’re still not satisfied?”; and as an indignant “really?!” — برضه تعمل كده؟ (“you’d do that anyway?”). Levantine speakers reach for كمان where Egyptians say برضه for “also,” but nothing quite matches its “even so” shrug. The clip also gifts you يتوه — “to get lost” — and the loanword الجي بي إس itself.
