Gezellig is the famously untranslatable Dutch word, mapping roughly to “cozy + companionable + low-stakes warm.” Tourists meet it as “the Dutch hygge.” Family life shows the harder edge: when a parent says gezellig, hè?, you understand you’ve been recruited.
