What does “Klapptisch” mean in German?

Settling into a plane seat, a short travel-routine video mentions folding down the Klapptisch before takeoff — the tray table. The word is built from klappen (to fold/flip down) and Tisch (table): a table that folds. It’s a small, everyday example of German naming objects after exactly what they do, rather than borrowing or coining a standalone word the way English did with “tray table.”

The same klapp- building block shows up constantly: Klappstuhl (folding chair), Klapphandy (flip phone, literally “fold-mobile”), Klappmesser (folding knife/pocketknife).
