What does “me voló la cabeza” mean in Spanish?
Volar on its own means “to fly,” but volarle la cabeza a alguien means to amaze someone completely — to blow their mind. That’s why the narrator can admit he doesn’t even like the beach, then add that the resort me voló la cabeza. The structure works like gustar: the thing that impresses you is the subject, and me / te / le marks who got blown away.
Swap the pronoun to fit anyone: ese concierto le voló la cabeza a mi hermano (“that concert blew my brother’s mind”). It stays firmly casual — save it for friends, not a formal report. Though it feels very Rioplatense, it’s used warmly across Latin America (Argentina, Costa Rica and beyond), and Spaniards understand it too. A near-cousin is the plain me sorprendió, but that’s far tamer.
