What does “en plan” mean in Spanish slang?

If you spend a day in Spain, you’ll hear en plan everywhere, especially from younger speakers. It works almost exactly like English “like”: it introduces an example, a paraphrase, or an attitude. En plan, ¿es como que te falta el gorrito? is “like, is it that you’re missing the little hat?” It buys a second, softens what follows, and flags “here comes what I mean.” Informal, and extremely common.

There’s an older, still-live sense too: en plan + noun meaning “in the mode of / with the intention of.” Salimos en plan amigos is “we went out as friends” (not a date); estamos en plan fiesta is “we’re in party mode.” Same words, but here it frames the vibe or intent rather than filling a pause.
