What does “megastolz” mean in German?
In casual spoken German, mega- attaches to adjectives to mean “very” or “really”: megastolz = super proud, megagut = really good, meganett = super nice. You will mostly hear it from younger speakers or in friendly conversation — it sounds warm and upbeat. In formal writing, people use sehr (very) instead. Spot mega- on any adjective and you already know it means “very [that adjective].”
“Schade, dass jetzt meine Reise hier vorzeitig beendet ist, aber ich bin trotzdem megastolz auf mich.” — “It’s a shame that my journey here is ending early, but I’m still super proud of myself.” A baking contestant says this after being sent home, and the word does exactly what it is supposed to: it keeps the tone warm and positive even in a sad moment. You can put mega- in front of lots of adjectives to turn up the volume: “Das Essen war megalecker.” — “The food was super tasty.” “Ich bin megamüde.” — “I’m really tired.” “Das Konzert war megagut.” — “The concert was awesome.” It is casual and friendly — great for chatting with friends, but you would usually skip it in a formal email or report. Also worth noting: stolz takes auf + a person or thing — “stolz auf mich” (proud of myself), “stolz auf dich” (proud of you).
