What does “pidkat” mean in Ukrainian?

In this playful sketch a girl makes a move on her crush, even writing him a song: «...сподобається пісня, яку я йому написала?» (“...will he like the song I wrote for him?”). That move is a підкат (pidkat), Ukrainian slang for hitting on someone or making a flirtatious approach.

The word is borrowed from football, where a підкат is a sliding tackle, so chasing a crush is, charmingly, “sliding in.” You “робиш підкат” (“make a підкат”) to someone you fancy, the Ukrainian cousin of “shooting your shot” or “sliding into the DMs,” here delivered as a cheeky little serenade.
