What does “kukta” mean in Hungarian?

Kukta is the Hungarian word for a pressure cooker. The story is unusual: kukta originally meant a kitchen scullion or junior cook, an apprentice helping in a noble or restaurant kitchen. The word came from Latin coctus (“cooked”) via medieval European kitchen vocabulary. Then Soviet-era and 1960s-70s Hungarian factories started producing pressure cookers for home use, and the device became so common in Hungarian kitchens that people called it kukta: the helper that cooks for you. The original “scullion” meaning faded; the device meaning won.
