What does “tengo un hambre que no veo” mean in Spanish?
On the train, he gives up waiting for the snack cart and groans, “tengo un hambre, tengo un hambre que no veo.” He starts with “tengo hambre” (I’m hungry), then adds “que no veo” — word for word “that I can’t see” — to blow the hunger way up. It’s the same playful move as “I’m so hungry I can’t think straight.” Light and a little dramatic. You’ll hear this “… que no veo” trick a lot in casual Spanish.
He says: “tengo un hambre, tengo un hambre que no veo” — “I’m hungry, I’m so hungry I can’t see straight.” The base is “tengo hambre” (I’m hungry); the “un” plus “que no veo” turns it into a big, joking version: I’m absolutely starving. You can tag “que no veo” onto other feelings for the same over-the-top effect: - “Tengo un sueño que no veo.” — I’m dead tired. - “Tengo unas ganas que no veo.” — I really, really can’t wait. - “Hace un frío que no veo.” — It’s freezing out. It’s friendly and a bit dramatic, used between friends, not in formal talk. Note it’s not literal — nobody is talking about eyesight; “que no veo” just means “to an extreme.”
