What is “De Universiteit van Nederland”?
De Universiteit van Nederland is a free Dutch online-lecture series founded in 2013 by Marten Blankesteijn (the same Dutch entrepreneur behind Blendle). The format pulls top professors from Dutch universities (Leiden, Groningen, Utrecht, Erasmus, UvA, TU Delft, Wageningen) and asks them to deliver one accessible 15-minute lecture on their core research question. Topics range from neuroscience to philosophy to fluid dynamics to medieval history. Dutch viewership is large: episodes regularly cross a million YouTube views, and the spinoff podcasts and live tour are uitverkocht months in advance. The format inspired similar series across Europe.
