What is “Paleis Huis ten Bosch” in The Hague?
Paleis Huis ten Bosch is the official residence of the Dutch royal family. Built in 1645, the palace sits in Den Haag surrounded by the Haagse Bos (the city’s central forest park). Inside live koning Willem-Alexander, koningin Máxima, and their three daughters, Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane. The Dutch state owns three official royal palaces: Huis ten Bosch (residence), Paleis Noordeinde (working palace, also Den Haag), and Paleis op de Dam (ceremonial, in Amsterdam). Most of Huis ten Bosch is closed to the public, but limited Open Monumentendag tours run a few times a year.
