Who is “koning Willem-Alexander” in the Netherlands?

Koning Willem-Alexander is the reigning Dutch monarch, who took the throne in 2013 from his mother Beatrix. Born in 1967, he’s the Netherlands' first king after three queens (Wilhelmina, Juliana, Beatrix). He trained as a commercial pilot and still co-pilots KLM flights as a hobby, which doubles as the country’s most-quoted royal-monarch fact. Together with Koningin Máxima and their three daughters (Amalia, Alexia, Ariane), he’s the centre of Koningsdag (April 27) parades in a different Dutch city every year.
